Local Astronaut to Fly Space Station Mission
NASA astronaut Scott Tingle, born in Attleboro, will fly a mission to the International Space Station in 2017.

ATTLEBORO, MA — NASA on Friday announced astronaut Scott Tingle, an Attleboro native, will fly a mission to the International Space Station in 2017.
It will be the first space station mission for Tingle, 50. He's also a U.S. Navy captain and has completed 54 combat missions.

Tingle will be a member of "Expedition 53" to the space station. The complete crew is:
- Jack Fischer, NASA
- Scott Tingle, NASA
- Fyodor Yurchikin, Roscosmos
- Alexander Skvortsov, Roscosmos
- Ivan Vagner, Roscosmos
- Paolo Nespoli, European Space Agency
“There’s so much going on aboard the space station at this point, so many science experiments and technology demonstrations,” said Chris Cassidy, chief of the Astronaut Office at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, in a statement.

Cassidy added he has no doubt Tingle will do an "excellent" job.
Though he was born in Attleboro, Tingle grew up in Randolph and calls that community home.
