Matt Foley, Pride of Seekonk, Selected in MLB Draft

Matt Foley, a Seekonk native, was drafted by the Miami Marlins this week.

Foley, 21, was selected in the 40th round of the draft as the 1,196th overall pick Thursday.

He was a star ballplayer at Seekonk High School, earning several all-star awards. He graduated in 2012.

Foley is now a junior at Rhode Island College and plays catcher. He stands 6 feet, 5 inches and weighs 230 pounds, according to his bio.

In 38 games this year, he hit .324, with 7 home runs and 29 RBIs.
