Obituary: Helen Anne Drohan

Helen Anne Drohan, 92, of Seekonk, passed away Sept. 28, 2013 surrounded by her family. 

Helen was born Sept. 13, 1921 in Bridgeport, Conn. to the late Blanche and Peter Kazin.

Helen wed the late William J. Drohan from Seekonk April 7, 1951 and had 46 years of happy marriage. 

As a young child, the family moved to Providence, R.I. where Helen attended Providence schools graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1940. During WWII, Helen was one of the many women who occupied traditionally men's jobs and operated a crane for the New Haven railroad. In 1944, she was interviewed for and aired by a Providence radio station for her role. Helen later went on to become a telephone operator for the New England Telephone Company for the next nine years. 

For most of her adult life Helen resided in Seekonk. In 1998, she moved to a retirement community in Herndon, Va. to be closer to her children. In 2012, she moved to an assisted living facility, Monroe House, in Sterling, Va.

Helen loved to play cards, bingo, celebrate holidays and birthdays, listen to Red Sox games and be with her family and friends. 

Helen is survived by her children Barbara A. Drohan-Ballard of Williamsburg, Va., William M. Drohan of Great Falls, Va. and Patricia E. Drohan of Reston, Va.; and her three grandchildren Michael L. Drohan of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth E. Ballard of Baton Rouge, La. and Patrick L. Drohan of Charleston, S.C. She was preceded in death by her three brothers Frank, John and Peter Kazin.

Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
