Developing: Swansea Shooter Reportedly Dies in Home

A former marine is found dead after reportedly threatening a woman and firing a shot in the air.

A Swansea man has reportedly died after firing a shot at his ex-girlfriend, then barricading himself in his home.

Multiple reports were circulating on social media of a shooter in the Ocean Grove Area just before 9 p.m. The man, 24, a former Marine, was found dead when police entered the home on Nichols Street in Swansea. Swat teams and K9 units were reportedly on the scene at 21 Nichols St., in Swansea. The bomb squad also reportedly responded.

Police responded to calls from a woman who reported her ex-boyfriend had threatened her and another person in the house, fired a shot in the air and fled. He reportedly returned to his home, where he was later found dead. Police have not released the man’s identity.

Somerset Police confirmed on their Facebook Page that the situation is now contained.

“We want you to know that our officers, including our K9, did respond to a despondent person with a firearm in Swansea. Southeastern Mass Law Enforcement Council also assisted. At this time we cannot comment on the situation but there is no longer a threat to anyone.”
