Seekonk High School Students Launch Green Bandana Project

The project is part of a nationwide initiative to bring awareness to and support the mental health of students.

SEEKONK, MA — Seekonk High School students launched the Green Bandana Project Monday as part of a nationwide initiative to bring awareness to and support the mental health of students.

Starting this week, students and staff who take the pledge to be part of the project will tie a green bandana on their bag so others can identify them as a support. Participants will also be given resource cards to help other students connect with the resources they need.

"This student driven project at Seekonk High School will pledge support to those in our school community that may be struggling," said the high school in an announcement Friday. "It will help to create a supportive environment for people in our community dealing with mental health illnesses by empowering fellow community members as advocates for mental and emotional well-being."

The program was adopted at Seekonk High School due to the mental health difficulties that have been a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The district hopes the Green Bandana Project will remind students that they are not alone.

"The Green Bandana Project promotes that it is ok to talk about mental health or any struggles that students are experiencing," said the high school. "There are people at SHS who will be there to listen and share resources."
