Seekonk High School Students Will Learn Remotely Until Nov. 30

The decision was made in response to five new coronavirus cases reported within the district.

SEEKONK, MA—Seekonk High School announced on Monday that it will temporarily switch to remote learning until November 3o following five new positive cases of coronavirus reported within the district.

According to a press release from Superintendent Rich Drolet, the district learned of two new positive coronavirus cases on Friday and three on Monday. High school students began learning from home on Tuesday.

"At this time, none of our positive cases are tied together and there is no evidence of any clusters or spread in our Seekonk schools," said Drolet. "In this instance, our shift to remote learning is due to an abundance of Seekonk High School teachers and support staff bring under quarantine in accordance with district protocols, some of which are due to cases outside of our schools."

As of Monday, Seekonk Public School have experienced 16 positive coronavirus cases since the first case was reported on October 25.

"To the district's knowledge and through contact tracing, all of the 16 positive cases were from transmissions outside of Seekonk Public Schools," said the press release. "Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 self isolate in accordance with MA Department of Public Health (DPH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) protocols."

Although Seekonk High School will remain closed until the end of the month, Martin Elementary School, Aitken Elementary School, and Hurley Middle School will continue their in-person classes as part of the district's current hybrid model.

"The district will continue to be vigilant in adhering to all of the protocols that have been put in place in an effort to continue hybrid learning," said the press release.

The district is asking that students, families, and staff continue to take precautions to avoid spreading the virus, including staying home if unwell, washing hands frequently, wearing a mask, and avoiding close contact with others.
