Seekonk Memorial Day Parade to Feature Some New Faces this Year

A bicycle decorating contest has been introduced.

Former Seekonk Selectman and Fire Chief David Viera, who has been chair of the Seekonk Memorial Day Parade Committee for 27 of the last 30 years, said the event's 2013 edition will include new features. Among them is a "bicycle brigade" of second-, third- and fourth-graders from Martin and Aitken elementary schools. They will decorate their bicycles for the parade.

"The Kiwanis Club will be judging the bikes at the high school at 9:30 a.m. and there will be trophies given to the first-, second- and third-place winners in each of those grades," he said.

This year, Viera said there will be large number of new bands for the parade, including a bagpipe band, a Dixieland band and a pipe organ.
