Seekonk Police Union Conducting Fundraising Campaign

Seekonk police are reassuring that its union is fundraising and that a call soliciting a donation on its behalf is not necessarily a scam.

SEEKONK, MA — It's natural for people to be skeptical with anyone asking for money or personal information unsolicited these days. With that in mind, Seekonk police are reassuring them that the Seekonk Police Union is currently seeking donations and a solicitation from someone claiming to represent the union is not necessarily a scam.

Seekonk FOP Lodge 5 representatives are currently conducting their annual campaign and making phone calls as part of the efforts. Seekonk police said, therefore, a cold call from someone saying they are part of the fundraising may be legitimate. Seekonk police said they have received calls worrying the efforts might be part of a scam.

Residents in area towns have been urged to be on alert whenever asked for money — including on behalf of town police and fire departments. Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath recently warned that town's residents not to agree to give out financial information, or agree to leave a donation in a mailbox, to anyone who contacts them via phone call after reports of a scam in that town.
