Seekonk Speedway To Reopen With Grant From Barstool Fund

The $15,000 grant will help cover opening costs for the speedway's 76th racing season.

SEEKONK, MA — Seekonk Speedway is officially opening for its 76th racing season thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Barstool Fund, a reserve founded to help support small businesses that are experiencing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Barstool Fund grant will help cover opening costs for the 2021 season and keep the speedway up and running despite the economic burdens of the last year, said Seekonk Speedway in an announcement on its website.

"Seekonk Speedway could not be more thankful for everyone at the Barstool Fund selecting the track as part of their initiative to save small business,” said Ed St. Germain, Director of Business Development at Seekonk Speedway, in a statement.

“We are looking forward to getting our fans back in the grandstands and getting our racing divisions back on the track this season. The assistance from The Barstool Fund will provide the track with necessary funds to make it all happen," he continued.

Seekonk Speedway's racing season usually lasts from May through October and typically includes over 40 events during good years. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the speedway only held 10 events in 2020 and is hoping to be able to return to a more normal racing season this year.
