According to the office of District Attorney Sam Sutter, Swansea police responded to the scene of Stephen French Road to find an individual who had been shot in a motor vehicle.

"After the arrival of the additional officers and the STOP Team, police were able to observe an individual in a motor vehicle who had been shot to death," Sutter's office said in a statement.  "Witnesses reported that that the individual who had shot and killed the victim in the car had fled into a home. Shortly after the individual retreated into the home, a single gun shot was heard."

According to the statement, police made entry into the home to find the body of a male who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

"There were no other persons in the home at the time and no other individual who were injured at the scene," according to the statement.

According to the Swansea Police, a standoff on 375 French Rd. has been secured at this time.

Police stated two people have died as a result of the incident.

The Massachusetts State Police have confirmed they were requested by the Swansea Police for their help in a shooting/shots fired incident.

According to the State Police, they received a call from the Swansea Police at 6:25 p.m.

Troopers from Barracks D responded with a full tactical team to help deal with the situation.

Initial reports stated the shooter had barricaded himself in a building after the shooting incident.
