Somerset Woman Killed By Her Dog: Authorities

Authorities said the woman was attacked by her dog while she was having a seizure.

SOMERSET, MA — A Somerset woman died after her dog mauled her Friday night at her home on Lees River Avenue. The Bristol County District Attorney's office told WPRI 12 Melissa Astacio, 44, had a seizure and was attacked by her 8-year-old pit bull.

Police used a stun gun to subdue the dog, and Astacio was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Somerset Board of Health will likely hold a hearing to determine what will happen to the dog.
