Taunton Man Kills Relative In Apparent Freak Fall River Accident
A 52-year-old Taunton man died Saturday after he was run over when an older relative drove off while he was working on the bumper.
FALL RIVER, MA — A Taunton man was killed in an apparent tragic accident Saturday when an older relative began to drive off and ran over him as he worked on the underside of his car. The Bristol County District Attorney's Office identified Alan Moreau, 52, as the victim who was run over by a 71-year-old relative on Pleasant Street in Fall River.
The DA’s Office said the two men had driven to Fall River in a Kia Sorento SUV and picked up a BMW sedan from a tow shop. The older man pulled over on Pleasant Street and told Moreau that there was a problem with the the BMW's bumper. Moreau was working to fix the bumper when the older man, apparently believing Moreau was done working and clear of the area, got in the BMW and began to drive with Moreau still on the ground under the car.
The DA’s Office said the driver felt running over something, and initially thought it was the bumper that had fallen off, before he realized otherwise and stopped. Attempts to resuscitate Moreau at the scene were unsuccessful. Moreau was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
