Unemployment Rate Drops in Seekonk, Swansea

The Swansea rate is lower in April than it was in March and April of last year. The Seekonk rate is lower in April than it was in March, but higher than it was in April of last year.

Fewer Seekonk and Swansea residents were out of work looking for jobs in April than were on the hunt in March, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The April unemployment rate in Seekonk was 8.1 percent, down from 9.6 percent in March. The figure is higher than it was in April 2012, when the unemployment rate was 7.7 percent.

The April unemployment rate in Swansea was 7.1 percent, down from 7.8 percent in March and 7.3 percent in April 2012.

Statewide, the unemployment rate also dropped. It was 6.3 percent in April, while it was 6.8 percent in March. The April 2012 unemployment rate was also 6.3 percent.
