Voter Turnout in Seekonk Is 7 percent
The winners of the U.S. Senate primary also receive the most votes in Seekonk.

Voter turnout was low throughout the state Tuesday when the few and the proud went to the polls to determine the party nominees for the special U.S. Senate election. It was especially tiny in Seekonk, where 7.32 percent (703 people) of the eligible voters cast ballots at Seekonk High School.
Democratic congressman Edward Markey and Republican businessman Gabriel Gomez were the winners of their respective primaries and they were also the top vote-getters in Seekonk. Markey received 253 votes (66 percent), while 127 people (33 percent) voted for his opponent U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch. There was one write-in vote.
The Republican contest in Seekonk was a little tighter with Gomez receiving 129 votes (40 percent) and runner-up former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan earning 127 (33 percent). State Rep. Daniel Winslow trailed with 82 votes (25 percent). There were three write-in votes.

The special election between Markey and Gomez will take place June 25.
