Coronavirus: Sharon Creates Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps

Sharon is looking to create a network of medical and non-medical volunteers willing to help the community during the coronavirus pandemic.

SHARON, MA — Sharon is putting together a "Medical Reserve Corps" of medical and non-medical volunteers willing to help the community during the coronavirus pandemic. Sharon officials said the corps is in response to the many residents who have reached out seeking to help in this unprecedented time.

Those who want to help, or have formed a group of volunteers willing to help, should contact the Health Department at 781-784-1500 Ext. 1143 to register for opportunities.

The Medical Reserve Corps is designed as a group of medical professionals and non-medical participants who are properly credentialed (CORI/SORI) and trained to assist with support services, food delivery, pickup for vulnerable populations and other other duties.

Gov. Charlie Baker said all people coming into Massachusetts from out of state should self quarantine for 14 days. The advisory, which is not enforceable by law, takes effect immediately.

"Do not travel to our communities, especially if you have symptoms," Baker said Friday morning.

The move impacts people coming into Logan and Worcester airports, taking the train into areas like South Station, and those who drive in. There will be fliers in popular transit spots and billboards letting people know.

Some travelers, like those who work in health care, public safety and transportation, will be exempt.

Baker also said it appears the economy "won't be up and running by Easter," a direct rebuke of President Donald Trump's desire to have the country reopened by April 12.
