Help Keep Barrels From Blowing Around Sharon
Residents are asked to secure trash in barrels and retrieve those quickly to help them from bonding around town on blustery days.
SHARON, MA — Windy spring days can take trash barrels for quite a ride. That's why the Sharon Board of Health is reminding residents to keep their barrels secure and retrieve them quickly after collection trucks have made the rounds.
The Board of Health issued a reminder Thursday of the town bylaw regarding trash collection:
"Garbage or mixed garbage and rubbish shall be stored in watertight receptacles with tight-fitting covers. Said receptacles and covers shall be of metal or other durable, rodent-proof material. Rubbish shall be stored in receptacles of metal or other durable, rodent-proof material.

"Garbage and rubbish shall be put out for collection no earlier than the day before collection."
With more people working from, and staying, at home during the new coronavirus health emergency, barrels left out in the morning can be forgotten, and wind up in traffic or neighboring property. Hungry critters on the prowl this time of year can also get into unsecured barrels and create quite a mess for property owners.
