Landscaper Earns Native Plant Horticulture and Design Certificate

Garden-911 Boston owner Carol Lundeen earns the New England Wildflower Society's Advanced Native Plant Horticulture and Design certificate

The New England Wildflower Society has announced that Carol Lundeen has successfully completed all requirements of its Advanced Certificate in Native Plant Horticulture and Design credential. The Society's annual graduation ceremony was held on November 3, 2018.

Ms. Lundeen, who owns and operates Garden-911 Boston, serves numerous landscape design and fine organic gardening clients in Sharon, MA. She’s also an educator who offers private and small group horticulture skills coaching and presents horticulture topics to social and garden clubs.

“I’m very fortunate,” says Ms. Lundeen. “Sharon is a like a beehive of people who value stewardship of the environment - from Sustainable Sharon to Sharon Friends of Conservation and the robust gardens of mostly native plants at the Unitarian Church. Being in love with bugs, dirt and plants my entire life, Sharon is an ideal place to collaborate with people who appreciate sustainable outdoor spaces.”

To achieve the advanced native plant horticulture and design certification, Ms. Lundeen completed four multi-session core courses – including Native Plant Communities and Native Plants for Professionals - four electives, three horticulture and design field studies, and a twenty five hour native plant community service leadership project.

The New England Wildflower Society’s mission is to conserve and promote the region’s native plants to ensure healthy, biologically diverse landscapes. With more than a century of successful habitat restoration, scientific research, and public education dedicated to native plants, the Society is the established leader in the region and an expert resource for professionals in other parts of the country and the world.

The Society is based at Garden in the Woods, a renowned native plant botanic garden in Framingham, Massachusetts, that attracts visitors from all over the world. From this base, 25 staff members and more than 700 volunteers work throughout New England to monitor and protect rare and endangered plants, collect and bank seeds for biological diversity, control invasive species, conduct research, and educate the public.

Garden-911 Boston is based in North Easton, MA. Ms. Lundeen’s other credentials include Rhode Island Certified Horticulturist (RICH); Accredited Organic Land Care Professional (AOLCP); certification in Landscape Business Management from Rutgers University Extension; and Certified Master Gardener at the University of Rhode Island.
