Norfolk County To Begin Mosquito Wetlands Control Treatments
Mosquito larvae control treatments will begin in Norfolk County next week.
SHARON, MA — The Norfolk County Mosquito Control District will begin larvae-control aerial spraying of wetlands in Norfolk County on Monday. The spraying will begin in two-day intervals between Monday and April 27.
The spraying will take place in parts of Avon, Bellingham, Braintree, Canton, Dedham, Dover, Foxborough, Holbrook, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Milton, Needham, Norfolk, Norwood, Plainville, Quincy, Randolph, Sharon, Stoughton, Walpole, Westwood, Weymouth and Wrentham.
Due to the coronavirus health emergency, this year's spraying program will be amended to exclude some wetlands with edges that closely abut neighborhoods. This is meant to keep helicopters further away from homes at a time when stress levels are high. The Norfolk County Mosquito Control District said that reduction in acreage will have no outcome on the levels of EEE and West Nile Virus this summer. This application mostly reduces the level of nuisance mosquitoes in the spring.
