Local Chinese language classes, dancing clubs, martial arts clubs, choruses, musicians, and hundreds of actors and audience put together a delightful show to celebrate the Rooster Year at the Sharon High auditorium on February 11th.

February 11 is the 15th day (first full moon) of the lunar New Year. It is also an important festival in Chinese tradition called the Lantern Festival, which generally concludes the two-week New Year celebration. Watching lantern shows and fireworks, eating Yuanxiao, and guessing riddles are also among the traditional celebrations.

The Lunar New Year celebration tradition can be traced back to 2006. More recently, the annual Sharon Chinese New Year Celebration (SCNY) program became a popular fundraising event for the Sharon Public Schools Foreign Language Education Program. Also presented annually is the Community Service Award. This year, Superintendent Dr. Timothy Farmer was recognized for his continued support to the Chinese Language Program in the Sharon Public Schools.
