Sharon Election Numbers Low During Daytime Hours

General election numbers relatively low at 5 p.m.

The election in Sharon Tuesday turnout was on the low side by the afternoon .

Election warden Lynn Callanan said there were 1,073 votes counted at 5 p.m.

“It’s a little slow,” she said. “It’s hard to tell at town election. We’ve had as low as 400, and we’ve had higher. We just had an election on April 30, and we had a big turnout. This is a little off from that, but we should have over 10 percent.”

In the selectmen's race, incumbent William Heitin is facing a challenge from Steven Ross, while in the school committee race, incumbents Jeffrey Crum and Emily Smith-Lee are facing a challenge from Marcy Kaplan

Matt Hershfield said he’s supporting Crum because of past experiences with him.

“I’ve known Jeff for a few years now, he was my old teacher in high school,” said Hershfield. “He’s a great guy. I was on the advisory school committee when he was on the school committee. He knows where everything’s heading and he has a good drive. He knows what he wants to do, and he speaks well for the students, teachers and parents.”

Imogen Leonard agreed, saying she feels his experience as a teacher lends expertise to the committee.

“I think he’s a great guy and a good foundation for the teachers,” Leonard said. “He’s good for students and teachers and I think he’ll be good on the committee.”

Resident Erna Goodman said she’s supporting William Heitin because of his experience of six years on the board of selectmen.

“He’s a great guy and he works very hard as an asset to the town,” she said.

Resident John Lavine agreed, saying he feels Heitin knows Sharon best.

“I’m supporting Bill because he’s born in the town, grew up in the town and he really cares about the town,” he said.

Resident Jeff Block said he’s supporting Marcy Kaplan for school committee.

“I’m supporting Marcy because she’s a very intelligent woman who will do very great things for the school committee,” he said.
