Sharon Postpones Youth Flag Football Due To Coronavirus Crisis

Town cites safety concerns, the feasibility of playing a full season, with hopes to offer a flag football season this spring.

SHARON, MA — The youth flag football season in Sharon has become one of the latest victims of the coronavirus health crisis.

The Sharon Recreation Department said it has made "the difficult decision to postpone our flag football season" after officials said they weighed safety concerns and feasibility of offering a full league in the fall. Officials said the goal is to be able to offer a full season in the spring instead.

"We are hopeful that everything will progress in a way that we will be able to offer a safe and enjoyable flag football season on Saturdays in the spring," the Recreation Department said in a message to the community.

Officials said they are exploring the possibility of offering mini-clinics with small group sizes and safety protocols in place to help fill the activity void young students have experienced since school and athletic activities began to be canceled due to coronavirus concerns five months ago.

Updates will be made on social media and through email notifications to enrolled families.
