Sharon Schools Report Positive Coronavirus Testing Pool

The district said one of the testing pools from Sharon High School came back positive.

SHARON, MA — Sharon School District has reported a positive testing pool in the second round of its COVID-19 testing initiative.

The second round of pool testing began on Monday, nearly two weeks after the district reported that all tests from the first round of pool testing came back negative.

"Today one of our pools from the high school came back positive," said the district in a Twitter post Wednesday evening. "Every member of that pool attended our follow up testing clinic this evening & received their test results. At this time everyone who was affected by the positive pool has been notified. All other pools were negative."

Since Jan. 5, Sharon Public Schools have reported 19 new COVID-19 cases, including four at East Elementary School, two at Cottage Street Elementary School, three at Heights Elementary School, three at Sharon Middle School, and seven at Sharon High School.

According to the latest statistics released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Sharon has experienced a total of 603 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 120 reported in the two weeks leading up to Jan. 21. The town has an average daily incidence rate of 46.9 and a 4.65% positivity rate, an increase from last week's average daily incidence rate of 35.6 and 4% positivity rate.
