Sharon Schools Surpass 20 New Coronavirus Cases Since Jan. 5

The district has now reported 21 coronavirus cases since the first week of January.

SHARON, MA — Sharon Public Schools reported on Thursday that a student at Sharon Middle School and a staff member at East Elementary School have tested positive for COVID-19, the district's 20th and 21st cases since Jan. 5.

According to a letter to families from Superintendent of Schools Meg Dussault, neither individual had close contacts within the district.

"A student at the middle school and a staff member at East have tested positive for COVID, said Dussault in a Twitter post. "Neither was in the building to infect others."

The two new cases come a day after the district reported a positive testing pool in the second round of its COVID-19 testing initiative, which began on Monday.

According to the latest statistics released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Sharon has experienced a total of 662 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 140 reported in the last two weeks. The town has an average daily incidence rate of 54.7 and a 5.42% positivity rate, an increase from last week's average daily incidence rate of 46.9 and 4.65% positivity rate.
