Somerville's Assembly Row: What's Coming in 2017
A slew of new eateries, bars and living options are coming to the burgeoning development as it enters Phase 2 of its expansion.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Up-and-coming Somerville neighborhood Assembly Row is entering Phase 2 of its expansion, and it's in line for a major boom.
The waterfront development will see more than 20 restaurants and retailers open on a rolling basis this 2017, three years after its initial opening. This spring, North End bakery Mike's Pastry will bring its third location to Assembly, and American Fresh Brewhouse will expand from its current beer garden into an indoor restaurant and brew pub, according to new details released Tuesday.
FitRow, Assembly's collection of five boutique fitness studios, will also be unveiled this spring with the opening of TITLE Boxing Club Boston and Orangetheory Fitness. Additional fitness studios have not yet been announced. Boston-based Squeeze Juice Co. will set up shop next to FitRow, using ingredients from a garden operated by Somerville's Green City Growers.

"With a sophisticated backdrop to unfettered fun, Lucky Strike Social is a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience and a new destination for Somerville residents," Steven Foster, Owner & CEO of Lucky Strike Entertainment, said in a statement. The Lucky Strike complex will offer bowling, ping pong, pool, shuffleboard and electronic gaming combined with gastropub cuisine, live music and a drink lineup of craft beer and Victorian-inspired cocktails.

Waxy's Assembly Row location will be the chain's fifth in Massachusetts. The company also has pubs in Florida, Texas, Connecticut and New Hampshire.
"We are excited to be a part of the neighborhood’s tremendous growth," Paul McKenna, principal of Waxy’s Restaurant Group, said in a statement. "Waxy’s Modern Irish Bar + Kitchen prides itself on providing excellent service and great food. With a variety of menu items and an expansive selection of 100 draught beers, Waxy's will be lively and festive anytime of the day and is the perfect place to gather with friends and family."
Two new residential complexes – Montaje, a 20-story, 447-unit apartment community – and Alloy – a 13-story, 122-unit collection of condos – will open their doors in 2017.
Montaje offers residents the choice between modern or classic unit finishes and features an amenity package with a maker space, a 14,000-square-foot roof terrace with a pool and bocce court and an indoor-outdoor sky lounge on the 20th floor that overlooks the Boston skyline. Leasing for Montaje begins in the spring.
Alloy will sit atop an upcoming Autograph Collection by Marriott hotel and provide residents with access to hotel services like the fitness center, pool, lounge and rooftop terrace.
A new grocery store and open space at Assembly Line Park are planned, as well.
"The passionate response to Assembly Row continues to exceed our expectations," Matt Ehrie, vice president and general manager of Assembly Row, said in a statement. "Whether people are coming here to shop, eat or be entertained, whether to live or to work, they tell us how they discover something new each time they visit. We’re excited to begin unveiling the second phase, which will provide even more options for our residents, office employees and visitors."
