Big Stoneham Boom Confounds Residents

Fireworks? No one — not even the police — are quite sure of what booming sound ripped through part of town late Sunday night.

STONEHAM, MA — Residents are wondering just what caused a loud boom that cut through part of town late Sunday night.

Police weren't sure about where the deafening sound came from. "Nothing found," someone in the records divisions told Patch.

The noise erupted shortly before 10:30 p.m.

One commenter on a private community Facebook group said it shook her house on Washington Street. More than a mile away on Bonad Road, someone else reported hearing it. Someone in Wakefield said they heard it, too.

Many people questioned whether fireworks made the sound, but no one saw evidence of them going off.
