STONEHAM, MA — The Steele Playground is expected to reopen Memorial Day weekend following nearly three months of renovation.

The playground, know by many as Munchkin Park, has been closed since early March as workers give it a much-need makeover. The result will be a modernized, ADA-compliant playground for the community.

Steele was part of the town's 2018 Open Space and Recreation Plan and funded by a $100,000 grant by the Division of Conversation Services.

The entire original play structure has been removed, the site was regraded and new equipment is still being installed. There will also be a new rubberized surface.
