Community Raises More Than $34,000 After Death Of Stoughton Teen
Emily Carreiro, the daughter of Stoughton Fire Lt. Billy Carreiro, died unexpectedly on Tuesday.
STOUGHTON, MA — The community has rallied together to raise tens of thousands of dollars following the death of a 17-year-old Stoughton High School student.
Emily Carreiro, the daughter of Stoughton Fire Lt. Billy Carreiro, died unexpectedly on Tuesday. Carreiro was set to begin her senior year this week. She was a captain on the varsity volleyball team and a member of the chorus and cheerleading team.
"We're acutely aware that no words could ever do this wonderful young woman justice, but our deepest sympathies go out to the entire Carreiro family," the town's firefighters union wrote on Facebook. "We ask that you please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during these incredibly trying times."

Stoughton High School Principal Juliette Miller said Carreiro was "a generous, compassionate, extremely talented, bright young lady."
"She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to share," Miller said in a statement. :This loss will be felt by many, and Emily will be greatly missed."

Following Carreiro's death, the firefighters union created a fundraiser to help with the cost of the funeral service. Checks can be mailed to the Stoughton Firefighter Local 1512, care of Joe Visser, at 30 Freeman St., Stoughton, MA, 02072. Donations can also be made via PayPal here.
Another fundraiser, The Carreiro Family in Loving Memory of Emily Carreiro, was also created on Facebook. As of Tuesday afternoon, it has raised more than $34,000.
Friends and family can pay their respects during a wake from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Farley Funeral Home. Carreiro's family has asked for donations in her name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, PO Box 37920, Boone, Iowa, 50037-0920.
