Just 1 Positive Case From Stoughton School Pooled Testing So Far
Superintendent John Marcus said pooled testing has been effective with over 900 students and staff participating each week.
STOUGHTON, MA — Stoughton Public Schools continued with another week of pooled coronavirus testing, and according to Superintendent John Marcus, there was just one positive case reported last week using the testing method.
"With over 900 participants each week, pooled testing has been very effective," Marcus said in a statement. "We have only had one positive result so far, and were able to isolate that individual quickly, keeping learning going safely."
Pooled testing involves mixing people's test samples together and testing the pooled sample for COVID-19. If the pool comes back positive, its members are individually tested. This increases the number of people that can be tested at once and allows the district to regularly test for COVID-19, Superintendent John Marcus said.

The program is voluntary for all students and staff. Tests are performed once per week in each of the schools using a shallow nasal swab. Marcus said schools will receive the pool results within 24-48 hours.
