Scammer Poses As Stoughton Police Officer: PD

Police asked residents to have conversations with their elderly parents, neighbors and friends to keep them from falling victim to scams.

STOUGHTON, MA — Stoughton police warned residents to be on the look out for scams, especially ones targeting seniors, after a resident became a victim of a scam Saturday.

Police said a scammer called an elderly resident claiming to be a member of the Stoughton Police Department. He said his name was Max Morgan and that he had arrested the senior's son, police said.

The scam artist said the son's bail was several thousand and needed to be wired to the police department.

"With no ability to wire money, this scam actually went to the home of our victim. We will never ever do this," police said in a Facebook post to warn residents.
