Sen. Timilty Amendments Finalized In 2018 Fiscal Year Budget
These amendments will revitalize the Stoughton State Theatre and fund operations of the Blue Hills Trailside Museum.
From State Senator Walter F. Timilty: Several amendments sponsored by Senator Walter F. Timilty (D-Milton) were included in final Fiscal Year 2018 budget that will be sent to the Governor’s desk following its passage by the Massachusetts State Senate and the Massachusetts House of Representatives this afternoon. These amendments will revitalize the Stoughton State Theatre and fund operations of the Blue Hills Trailside Museum.
Timilty secured $50,000 for the revitalization and preservation of the State Theatre in Stoughton in the budget. The State Theatre was first opened to the public in December 1927. The funding will enable future generations to enjoy dance, music, and theatrical performances; visual art displays; literary readings; and film events at this community landmark.
As part of an amendment to fund community substance abuse prevention coalitions across the Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth District, Timilty secured $25,000 for Organizing Against Substances in Stoughton. These funds will contribute to the prevention and awareness efforts underway by the group to combat the deadly epidemic of opioid addiction and overdose.

“In my work in the State Senate, the needs and concerns of the people I am privileged to represent are always first and foremost on my mind,” said Timilty. “I was proud to join Representative Bill Galvin and Representative Lou Kafka to advocate for the residents of Stoughton and serve as their voice during the budget process.”
Timilty secured $250,000 for the Blue Hills Trailside Museum in the budget. These funds will be directed toward the museum’s operating costs, strengthening its ability to serve as a gateway to the Blue Hills Reservation.

“I am proud to advocate for the Trailside Museum alongside Representative Galvin and Representative Kafka,” said Timilty. “The museum serves not only as a must-visit for my constituents, but for citizens from across the Commonwealth – including students representing hundreds of our schools – seeking to learn more about the diverse array of wildlife that calls Massachusetts home.”
