Stoughton Library Art Showcase: 3 Local Artists Showing Pieces

The Stoughton Public Library will set up an art gallery in November that showcases work from three local artists.

STOUGHTON, MA — The Stoughton Public Library will give local artists a chance to show their work to the entire community. Throughout November, artists Fen Zhou, Pat Lloyd and Nancy Van Dam will have their pieces showcased in the library's art gallery.

Here's a little about the artists and the types of pieces they like to make:

Fen Zhou

Since retiring from the molecular biology research field at Harvard Medical School in 2014, Zhou has learned to paint using watercolor and acrylics from painter Dorothy Appel. More recently, she learned to paint with oil from Laura Lee Zanghetti. Zhou is interested in painting the four seasons, landscapes, still life and more.

She likes to use the canvas to capture a memory of every place she has visited. Zhou joined the Sharon, Canton, and Foxborough Art Associations and features her own art work in local library gallery exhibitions. She received several awards from local art shows.

Pat Lloyd

Lloyd received her bachelors of fine art from Mass. College in art education, taught dance to children and worked in the adult probation of Brockton District Court. In her retirement, she has studied watercolor and acrylic painting with accomplished artists. Through her own photos, her subject matter is expresses wonderful memories growing up in Roxbury and Dorchester.

Pat has been experimenting with a two-color palette with abstract landscape scenes of Boston. Her farm scenes and birch tree paintings are inspired by her trips to New Hampshire. Through her love for dance, she has a keen interest in attempting to captivate motion and the gesture of the human form, that includes domestic and exotic animals.

Nancy Van Dam

Nancy Van Dam has worked in the fields of publishing, public relations, and education. With a masters in applied linguistics, Van Dam has worked in several area school systems teaching immigrant students to read, write and speak English. Retired since 2009, Ms. Van Dam started painting about three years ago. She enjoys experimenting with color, texture, and motion, and spends several hours a week submerged in the process of painting.
