Carroll's promotion adds to his family's long history in the Stoughton Fire Department. His father, Ed is a former chief. Both Carroll's grandfather Leo Roche and brother Tim also served as firefighters.

"Assistant Chief Carroll has served admirably throughout his tenure with the Stoughton Fire Department and carries on his family's tradition of service," Grimm said in a statement.
