Stoughton Names Mike Carroll Its Next Fire Chief

STOUGHTON, MA — Town officials named Stoughton's next fire chief.

Assistant Chief Mike Carroll will replace Fire Chief Michael Laracy beginning July 1, Town Manager Robin Grimm announced Wednesday. Laracy will retire after serving at the head of Stoughton's fire department for the last four years. He's been a firefighter since 1986, also working in Foxborough and Walpole.

Carroll has served as a Stoughton firefighter since 1994. In 2000, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and in Jan. 2021, the department promoted him to assistant fire chief.

Carroll's promotion adds to his family's long history in the Stoughton Fire Department. His father, Ed is a former chief. Both Carroll's grandfather Leo Roche and brother Tim also served as firefighters.

"Assistant Chief Carroll has served admirably throughout his tenure with the Stoughton Fire Department and carries on his family's tradition of service," Grimm said in a statement. "I am confident we will have a smooth month of transition from Chief Laracy to Chief Carroll and look forward to working with Chief Carroll as he embarks on his new role."
