Union Sues Closed Stoughton Warehouse For Lost Wages, Benifits

The owners of a now-closed Stoughton warehouse face a lawsuit from a labor group.

STOUGHTON, MA — The owners of a now-closed Stoughton warehouse face a lawsuit from a labor group claiming they violated labor laws by laying off all their employees.

Garber Brothers, which distributes tobacco, grocery, and beauty products to convenience stores in New England, faces a federal lawsuit from Teamsters Local 653 alleging that the company violated the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act when they abruptly laid off 100 employees and didn't give them their wages, benefits, accrued holidays and accrued vacation pay for at least 60 days, according to court documents obtained by the Enterprise.

They also claim that employers with more than 100 employees must provide least a 60-day notice for a plant closure or large layoff
