Artist Makes Stop At Loring Elementary In Sudbury
The stop was the first of three visits by artist Bret Bataclan, who is participating in Sudbury Schools' new Artist in Residency program.
SUDBURY, MA — A traveling artist who has worked with students across the country made the first of three stops in Sudbury last month, visiting Loring Elementary School for a week-long residency. Bren Bataclan — a Boston-based artist who's painted more than 200 murals for schools, hospitals and businesses as part of his Smile Project — visited Loring the week of Nov. 18 as part of the district's new Artist in Residency program before unveiling two murals Nov. 22.
Bataclan worked with Loring fifth graders to create the two unique murals inside the school. Both murals represent the school’s core values of respect, caring, best effort and responsibility, according to a release.
Using those values as guides, he and the students conceptualized and created 40 different symbols to represent the values and the community as a whole. Symbols include a computer, books, a pencil, a musical note, a heart and more.
