Drivers Beware, High Winds Bringing Down Trees: Sudbury PD

Sudbury police warn drivers to be prepared for detours due to fallen trees in the roadways taken down by high winds.

SUDBURY, MA- Sudbury police warned residents to be extra cautious while driving on Monday after high winds took down trees blocking roadways around town.

Police worked to clear a tree that had fallen onto Route 20. The department warned drivers to expect delays as a result of work to clear multiple roads around town. Police said they are working as quickly as possible to clear the fallen trees but that it is hard to predict where the next one might fall.

Wind speeds ranging from 46 mph to nearly 60 mph have been reported across the state this morning. The National Weather Service says the strongest winds are expected this afternoon.

The winds have also been taking down power lines or bringing trees down onto power lines in some cases. Sudbury had 352 outages reported as of 8 p.m. on Monday, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management System. Eversource took to Twitter to remind customers not to touch downed wires and report the incident to both police and the utility company.
