FAA Grounds Stow-Based Collings Foundation Flights
One of the company's World War II era bombers crashed in Connecticut on Oct. 2.
STOW, MA — The Federal Aviation Administration on Thursday grounded all flights by the Stow-based Collings Foundation, a response to a deadly crash of a foundation-owned plane in Connecticut in October.
In its report, the FAA said the aviation group "has not been operating in compliance" with federal rules. It found that it did not take seriously its safety management system program," and said that allowing Collings to continue its living history flights "would not be in the public interest and would adversely affect safety."
Seven people died on Oct. 2 when a World War II-era B-17 crashed in Windsor Locks, Conn. The Collings Foundation had sought to continue a tour of historical planes, including demonstration flights.
