Former Sudbury Resident Served in Army During World War II

Arthur Buzzell died in Maine at the age of 94 years old.

The following is an obituary courtesy of Knowlton Hewins Roberts Funeral Home.

Arthur A. Buzzell, 94, formerly of Randolph, passed away on Friday, June 13th, 2014 at the Alfond Center For Health, Augusta, with his family by his side. 

He was born in Sudbury, Massachusetts on May 12, 1920, the son of Alton H. and Sadie (Litchfield) Buzzell. 

Arthur married Harolyn Blake on August 29, 1946 and they were together for 63 years. 

Arthur served in the United States Army during World War II from January 8, 1942 until his honorable discharge on December 9, 1945. 

He was employed as a delivery driver for many years with Purington Bros., Stone & Cooper, and lastly Webber Fuel Co. until his retirement at the age of 65. 

The family would like to thank the staff of 2 West and Arthur’s provider, Dr. Michael Szela, for their excellent care. 

Arthur was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Harolyn; his siblings, Irving, Morris (Ted) and Emily Chase; a son-in-law, Raymond Collins, and daughter-in-law, Pam Buzzell; sisters-in-law, Ginny Buzzell and Halcyon Roberts, and brother-in-law, Warren Chase. 

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Gallup & husband, Frank, of So. Gardiner, with whom he lived since his wife’s passing in 2009; his son, Arthur L. & wife, Leslie, of Jackman; his daughter, Lorraine Collins of Florida; his son, Gerard Godin & wife, Diane, of Skowhegan; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandsons; as well as several nieces and a nephew. 

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10:00 – 11:00am Friday, June 20th at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church St., Augusta. A celebration of Arthur’s life will also be at the funeral home, after visiting hours, at 11:00 am. A committal service with full military honors will follow at Noon at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to the Kennebec Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta 04330.
