Goodnow To Host 'Race Amity' Screening

Goodnow Library invites the community to a virtual screening of the public television documentary series “American Stories: Race Amity and The Other Tradition" later this month.

The series will be shown on Tuesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. via Zoom, the link for which will be emailed to participants once they register. The event is sponsored by Goodnow Library Sudbury CARES (Community Anti-Racism Education Series) and the Sudbury Community for Racial and Social Justice.

Presenter Dr. William H. Smith is the film’s Executive Producer and Senior Writer, and co-author of its companion book “Race Amity: America’s Other Tradition.” Smith is founding Executive Director of the National Center for Race Amity and recipient of the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame Award.

Sudbury residents also will recognize Smith as the former principal of Curtis Middle School.

The documentary explores the moral counterweights to the tradition of racism in America and how to move together toward unity and love. Created by WHS Media Productions LLC, the film discusses the “better in us” perspective needed in the current climate of disunity across racial, religious, and political lines.

Smith will introduce the documentary, read from his book, offer commentary and lead a Q&A session.
