SUDBURY, MA—Play ball! L-S Youth Baseball’s T-Ball players faced off for the first game of the season at Featherland on Monday evening.

Sudbury’s Durham Bulls and Rochester Redwings – names borrowed from Minor League Baseball teams – heated up the field over two innings in the chilly spring weather, following warm-up drills to work on throwing and catching. This friendly bout marked the official start to game season, on the heels of Saturday morning’s opening ceremonies.

“They played 2 innings and had a blast! Lots of excitement followed by popsicles and pizza,” said Kim MacDonough, parent of Redwings player Abby MacDonough.

“Sudbury creates a setting that enables good ball players from early on. It’s something you experience as a kid, parent and coach,” said league commissioner Michael Lane.

Three tenets of Sudbury T-Ball are have fun, work hard and be a good sport. Players who enjoy themselves, try their best at every practice and game, and honor the game while respecting their opponents and officials will have a great season ahead, according to the league’s t-ball coaching guidelines.

Specific skills they’ll be continuing to work on this week include gripping a baseball properly, throwing, catching, knowledge of bases and the rules of the game.

Sudbury T-Ball games are scheduled on Mondays from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm through June 12. The players practice Saturdays at Curtis from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
