SUDBURY, MA — The Lincoln Sudbury Scholarship Fund is seeking student applicants for the 2021 round — and the fund is seeking donors to keep the 45-year-old program going.

Here's more from a Lincoln-Sudbury Scholarship Fund press release:

Even in the middle of a global pandemic, the Lincoln-Sudbury Scholarship Fund Dollars for Scholars (LSSF Dollars for Scholars) is proud to celebrate 45 years of acknowledging local Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School graduates. In 1976, Lily Spooner, the founder of LSSF Dollars for Scholars, could never have imagined the growth and the number of students that would benefit from the idea she envisioned 45 years ago.

As a local chapter of Scholarship America, a national nonprofit foundation that supports academic success in the community, the LSSF Dollars for Scholars program helps local graduating seniors by giving assistance to meet increasing costs of college through awards funded by endowments and annual scholarships.

With over $2.5 million in awards granted since LSSF Dollars for Scholars’ inception, thousands of scholarship recipients have achieved their dreams and created careers they love, thanks to the help LSSF provided. Last June alone, LSSF Dollars for Scholars awarded 81 scholarships to deserving LS grads. The scholarships acknowledged a myriad of students who excelled in academics, sports, arts, and in the community.

Every year starting in February through the end of March, students apply to receive aid for colleges all over the United States, and some internationally. Applications are anonymously assessed and awards are made based on merit and/or financial need. Once a student is chosen, they receive an invitation to a ceremony, where it is revealed what scholarship the student will be awarded. It is a night to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of the students. In 2020, the awards were revealed at a virtual online event.

Many of the scholarships are created in honor or memory of individuals with strong ties to the community and to the High School. The awards ceremony is also an opportunity to meaningfully remember those individuals as well.

Along with the challenges of a global pandemic and the cost of college continuing to rise, the needs of students are increasing, and the number of LSSF applicants are reaching new heights.

All donations to LSSF Dollars for Scholars, as well as income from invested funds, will be used directly for the awarding of the scholarships. Individuals, organizations, and businesses can make annual contributions, bequests, and endowments. Annual scholarships of $1,000 or more may be named by the donor.

All contributions are tax-deductible. More information can be found here or via email at lssscholarshipfund@gmail.com. Checks can be made out to “Lincoln Sudbury Scholarship Fund" and mailed to PO Box 693, Sudbury, MA 01776. All Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School graduating seniors are encouraged to apply.
