Mosquito Spraying In Sudbury Neighborhood This Week

The second case of human Eastern equine encephalitis was confirmed in Massachusetts over the weekend.

SUDBURY, MA — Mosquito spraying returns to Sudbury on Tuesday, and will take place in the neighborhoods around Camp Sewataro, according to the East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project.

As usual, the spraying will take place during the evening hours from sunset to 11 p.m., and could be postponed if it's too rainy or windy.

Crews will be spraying the pesticide Anvil, which contains sumithrin.

"Mosquito control applications of sumithrin do not pose a significant risk to people or their pets due to the low toxicity of sumithrin and the small amount used to control mosquitoes," the mosquito control district said in a statement. "As with any pesticide, people should minimize their exposure. If residents see a spray truck approaching, they are advised to go indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates."

Over the weekend, the state confirmed the second case of Eastern equine encephalitis in a resident from the Wilbraham area in Hampden County. The first case was confirmed several weeks ago near Middleborough.
