Please Support Marie Royea for Goodnow Library Board of Trustees

My name is Marie Royea and I am running for re-election to the Goodnow Library Board of Trustees. In addition to serving as a Library Trustee, my participation in many other town organizations and activities which currently include the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the local Board of Health (BOH), and the Sustainable Sudbury Board has given me a broad perspective for the needs of our community.

Recently I’ve supported the Goodnow Library staff’s swift work to maintain community connections in light of the many challenges that Covid-19 has required of families. For example, virtual story times for children as well as yoga sessions, dance classes, reading challenges, and activity kits are created by our stellar library staff and shared with the community. For adults, it has meant supporting the diversion of library funds to purchase e-books, downloadable audiobooks, and streaming music and movies. In addition, the staff, with Trustee support, has offered “pop-up libraries” in the library parking lot and a new Book, Movie, and Binge Bundles Program to provide personalized selections for patrons. Contactless pick up of material requests makes the collections of the entire Minuteman Library Network available as well.

I’ve witnessed the evolution of the Library as it continues its vital role as an irreplaceable resource for Sudbury. I regard local libraries to be an indispensable component of the fabric of any community and feel that free, open access to information in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere is a hallmark of a civilized society.

Serving six years on the Board of Trustees at Goodnow has made me appreciate how fortunate Sudbury is to benefit from our talented, creative, hardworking, and professional library staff.

I ask for your support and vote on or before March 29, 2021, so that I may continue to serve as your Trustee and secure Goodnow Library’s well-earned status as a unique asset for the Sudbury community.
