Recall: Mold Found in Popular Children's Apple Sauce

GoGo squeeZ is voluntarily recalling the apple sauce pouches nationwide, though the mold is not thought to pose an immediate health risk.

A popular brand of apple sauce for children is being recalled after mold was found in some of its products.

GoGo squeeZ is recalling applesauce pouches that have best-by dates between June 30, 2016, and July 26, 2016. A problem during production may have allowed mold to get into some of the pouches.

The company said a production issue could cause the applesauce pouches to harbor fruit mold. While the mold is the same kind commonly found on fruit and does not pose an immediate health risk, according to company CEO Michael Larroche, it can have an unpleasant look and taste.

“As a consequence, we took every step to fully understand and fix the problem,” Larroche said. “We are completely confident that we are once again meeting our high quality standards. Additionally, we have been working closely with the FDA on our actions, and we will keep you updated with any new information.”

The recall affects GoGo squeeZ products sold across the country, including in Massachusetts. The company is directing anyone who may have purchased the affected applesauce to www.gogosqueez.com/announcement.
