Sudbury Church Bells to Ring for Newtown at 9:30 a.m.

The following information is from Rev. Tom O'Brien of the Sudbury Clergy Association:

In response to a request from Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Sudbury United Methodist Church, Memorial Congregational Church (United Church of Christ), First Parish of Sudbury (Unitarian Universalist), Our Lady of Fatima, St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church and possibly other communities of faith in Sudbury will sound their bells Friday, Dec. 21 at 9:30 a.m.

Citing the outpouring of love and compassion from every state and around the world, Malloy has asked places of worship and government buildings to ring their bells to remember the "twenty beautiful school children and six dedicated educators taken from their families and their loved ones."

The faith communities in Sudbury will ring their bells 28 times, once for each person who lost their life last Friday, Dec. 14 in Newtown, Connecticut.  Organizations without bells will or remember the victims by observing a moment of silence or in another way that is appropriate to their tradition.

"Too often we focus on what divides us as people, instead of what binds us together as human beings," wrote Governor Malloy, in a letter released yesterday.  "The sense of community that has emerged in the wake of this tragedy should not be lost."  Members of the Sudbury Clergy Association have worked to create an interfaith community that comes together to support the town and others in need and invites the citizens and visitors to Sudbury to take a moment on Friday morning to pause and remember.
