Sudbury Police Report Dozens Of Bogus Unemployment Claims
There are so many false unemployment claims, police have created a new way to report them.
SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury police are responding to so many reports of fraudulent unemployment claims, the department has set up a new way for residents to report them.
The department is getting between five and 10 reports per day of identity theft related to phony unemployment claims. Fraud related to unemployment has exploded recently amid coronavirus job losses — so much that the FBI over the summer issued a bulletin warning about the scam.
For example, over 400 current and former Worcester city employees were targeted by the scam — including the current city manager.
