Sudbury Schools To Host Homework Forum
The forum comes after Sudbury scaled back the amount of homework some students get.
SUDBURY, MA — Some school districts in the U.S. are asking whether homework works, including in Sudbury. New research suggests that too much homework can be harmful for students, especially during the elementary school years.
Sudbury Public Schools will host a forum on next week to discuss some of those issues. Former East Greenwich, R.I., superintendent Victor Mercurio — now a professor at Johnson and Wales University — will lead the discussion.
The forum comes after Sudbury recently scaled back the amount of homework some students get. After studying the issue in 2018, Sudbury decided to limit homework in grades kindergarten through 8. Students in 5th grade and below only get homework Monday to Friday, and never on religious holidays.

"This is a great opportunity for parents and members of the community to learn about the guiding principles behind homework from a subject matter expert," Sudbury Superintendent Braid Crozier said in a news release.
The forum will be held March 4 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ephraim Curtis Middle School auditorium. The event is free and parents are encouraged to attend.
