Kodera was driving southbound on Concord Road heading toward Weston center around 2:43 p.m. last Friday when he lost control of his car and it left the road and struck a tree, Maguire said. Kodera had visible lacerations, but was able to get out of the car, Maguire said.

The passenger, a 16-year-old Sudbury boy, was more seriously injured. Weston fire officials used the Jaws of Life to extricate the boy from the car, a process that look about an hour, Maguire said. Concord Road remained closed for several hours following the accident.

The 16-year-old (who has not been named due to his age) was taken by ambulance to Beth Israel Medical Center. Maguire did not know the extent of his injuries. Kodera was treated at the scene and later taken by ambulance to Beth Israel for medical evaluation.

Both boys are believed to be students at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, police said.

While there were no witnesses to the crash, police say statements made by Kodera and by other drivers who saw his car on the road, indicate Kodera was speeding at the time of the accident.

"The officers at the scene believe based on the seriousness of the crash, the car was traveling at speeds greater than 50 miles per hour," said Maguire.

Concord Road is a narrow, winding road with a posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour.

The state police accident reconstruction team was at the scene to photograph the site. The crash remains under investigation, Maguire said.
