Sudbury's 4th Of July Festivities: 2019 Guide, Scheduled Time

SUDBURY, MA — July 4th is quickly approaching, which means it's time to fire up that barbecue and find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you this Independence Day. We gathered up all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Sudbury so you can start planning now.

The forecast for Independence Day shows warm and comfortable temperatures, perfect for the parade (maybe bring some sunscreen), with the night time settling into the 70's. Sudbury doesn't have any fireworks planned so you'll have to travel out of town for the big bang, but luckily there are plenty of events happening in neighboring towns.

Sudbury Fourth of July Road Race

What: A 3.75 mile race commemorating Independence Day.

Where: Featherland Park

When: Race starts at 9 a.m.

A 54-year tradition, the race starts at Featherland Park and commemorates Independence Day in Sudbury. Concord Road will be closed between Morse Road and Plympton Road at the beginning of the race, which starts at 9:00 AM. The road will only be closed long enough to get the participants off of Concord Road onto the secondary streets. Expect delays in this area until the conclusion of the road race. Avoid this area of Concord Road if possible.

July Fourth Demo Day at Davis Field

What: July Fourth Demo Day Hosted By The Charles River Radio Controllers

Where: Davis Field, Sudbury

When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 4

Once again this year, the Charles River Radio Controllers will host a public demo-day at Davis Field in Sudbury on the Fourth of July. This fun and family-friendly event features flight demos by club pilots, airplane and quadcopter models on display, and foam-plate gliders for kids to build. For those interested in learning to fly, there’s a computer simulator and even a chance to learn to fly a real model with a buddy-box setup and instructor.

Fourth of July Hosmer House Celebration

What: An open house tour of one of Sudbury's historic homes.

Where: Hosmer House, 299 Old Sudbury Road

When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Local artists Lynn Cunningham and Diane Hammond will be displaying their watercolor creations in the second floor Ballroom. Dorothy McGonagle will exhibit a collection of antique dolls in the first floor Parlor.

The Hosmer House store will be open and selling homemade pies, cup plates, dolls, ornaments, books, and the popular Sudbury throws that feature historical buildings of Sudbury. The Hosmer House is air conditioned so come in from the heat. Refreshments will be served and entrance is free of charge.

All of the Hosmer House events (Memorial Day, 4th of July and the Holiday Open House) are made possible by the volunteer efforts of the Hosmer House Docents. If you are interested in becoming a Hosmer House Docent please send an email to the Sudbury Historical Commission.

Sudbury Fourth of July Parade

What: The town's annual fourth of July parade

Where: The parade proceeds along Boston Post Road and Concord Road.

When: 1 p.m.

This year’s theme for the annual parade is “Dance and Sing, May freedom ring.”For the parade itself, participants will begin assembling at Chiswick Park off of Union Avenue at 12:00 PM. Beginning at 12:45 PM, just prior to the parade, the following roads will be closed:

  • Union Avenue will be closing at 12:45 (only parade participants will be allowed to enter)
  • Boston Post Road (Route 20) from Nobscot Road to Landham Road
  • Concord Road from Boston Post Road to Plympton Road
  • Route 27 from Water Row to Peakham Road

Anyone traveling through the area between 12:45 PM and 4:00 PM should expect extensive delays and/or seek an alternate route. The finish time may vary depending on the length of the parade. The roads will remain closed until participants have safely traversed the parade route. Detours will be set up to minimize the inconvenience to the public.

If you're celebrating in Natick:

Natick's Fourth of July Parade

What: 64th Annual Natick 4th of July Parade

Where: Parade starts at Wilson Middle School and travels down Route 27 to the Natick Common and concludes right after St. Patrick’s Church.

When: Thursday, July 4 9:00 a.m.

This year's parade will celebrate Natick's Diversity. The morning will kick off with the Natick High School a cappella group performing near the grand stands in Natick Center. Then spectators can sit back and cheer as the floats, cars, and bands parade by. This year, the parade is welcoming back many traditional participants, such as the Aleppo Shriners, Camp Arrowhead, Natick Organic Farm, and the Eclipse band, and introducing several first-time floats and community groups.

Natick Children's Parade

What: Children's Fourth of July Parade

Where: Natick Common

When: 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1

The days leading up to the parade will be fun-filled as well, with a Children's Parade taking place at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1. The Children's Parade will go around the Natick Common and feature games and music. People are welcome to stay at the common after the parade for a concert.

If you're celebrating in Milford:

July 4th Festivities

What: Milford's 2nd Annual 4th of July Parade

Where: The parade starts at the IHop on Rte. 109 at the intersections of Routes 109 and 16 and follows Rte. 16 into town, ending at Draper Park

When: 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4

The parade was started just last year to honor Independence Day. Featuring floats and classic cars, the parade is open to everyone, even including a bicycle brigade full of children and decked out red, white and blue bikes. The parade honors one citizen, dubbed "Milfordian of the Year" who stands out as selflessly contributing to make Milford a better place. This year the parade will honor Milford Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin.

The town will also start the celebrations a day early with fireworks at 10 p.m. on July 3rd at Plains Park. The rain date for the fireworks show is July 5th.

Annual Fourth of July Family Fun Day

What: Weston's Annual Fourth of July Family Fun Day

Where: Memorial Pool, Alphabet Lane, Weston

When: 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on July 4

Be sure to stop by the pool to celebrate the USA and check out the all-day patriotic events, games, and attractions. DJ Mike will be on hand to play poolside music and lead games such as limbo, freeze dance, and more. The aquatic staff will be on hand to lead water games and raft rides.
