Town Manager Issues Sudbury Storm Cleanup Update

The town manager thanks Sudbury residents for their patience, and warns that we're bracing for another. But the town is prepared!

SUDBURY, MA—Town Manager Melissa Rodrigues wants to thank the community for its patience over the past five days (hey, who said anyone was patient!?).

In a late Monday afternoon address to the town, Rodrigues laid out a plan and addressed the impending storm that some are saying "adds insult to injury."

"This has been a major public safety event for our community, and it will take some time for all of our operations to get back to normal procedures," wrote Rodrigues.

Currently, Sudbury still has contractors from MEMA in town at the direction of the Lt. Governor to assist DPW in debris clean up. Officials have requested additional assistance are "waiting to hear back on that request."

"The town is dedicated to helping residents with this debris," wrote Rodrigues. "Please recognize that completion of this task will take many weeks. We are asking residents to pull debris to a point ten feet from the side of the road by Friday, March 16."

She said that the anticipated snow even on Tuesday brings new challenges, and that it is likely that Massachusetts will be impacted by a storm with the potential of blizzard-like conditions and snowfall rates of 1-3 inches per hour.

"We are asking residents to avoid travel if possible," she wrote. "There are still hazards on the side of the road and the potential for additional damage due to the high winds and snow weight. The snow is expected to come down very quickly and travel could be impossible at times.

"Both of the Board of Selectmen and I are proud of the Town’s response after the past days.We would like to recognize the Department of Public Works, the Police Department, the Fire Department, 911, the Building Department, the Board of Health, CERT, the Goodnow Library, Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School, the Fairbank Center, and the many other Town employees and volunteers for their incredible work and support. Our thanks will never be enough to recognize the commitment you have shown to our community this week, and we are honored to be a part of your team."
