Wayland Small Biz Profile: Fitness Together
"I felt there was a great need to help people who couldn't find success getting in a shape at typical big-box gyms."

WAYLAND, MA—After he studied biology at Hobart College and completed a dual-Masters program in exercise physiology and sports psychology at Ithaca College, Josh Rosenfeld moved to Boston and worked as a fitness director in a large gym.
"I ultimately wanted a better setting for my team to focus on their clients, so I opened Fitness Together in Sudbury in January 2002 and a second location in Wayland in March 2010," said Rosenfeld.
What made you decide to go into this type of business? I felt there was a great need to help people who couldn't find success getting in a shape at typical big-box gyms, either because they just wouldn't go, or because they would but wouldn't have a good grasp of what to do and how to do it correctly.

Why this location? I chose Sudbury and Wayland because they are very nice family-oriented towns, and I felt that the Fitness Together model would be a great fit.
What do you like best about it? Seeing people change physically and mentally and hearing stories of how it has positively changed their life.

Biggest struggle? Continuing to evolve the business to cater to the needs of the customer, and continuing to acquire exceptional team members.
What do you see for the future? Relocating the Sudbury studio to a newer and larger location (within the same plaza) in mid-October. It will be great to have a change of scenery and a new space after 16 years!
Another local business you'd send customers to: Dr. Chris Hauck at Chiropractic Solutions on Speen Street in Framingham.
Politics and business: how does the government affect your business? We really haven't seen much of a correlation one way or another. In fact, we had a pretty significant growth spurt from 2009-2011 while the US economy was essentially in a recession.
